Holy Saturday

Today is Holy Saturday, the day before Easter. It is the seventh and final day of Holy Week, and part of the second day of the Easter Triduum. It officially ends at dusk tonight, so Easter celebrations can actually begin this evening. Before this point, however, celebration of mass is prohibited and Holy Communion is [...]

Good Friday

Today is Good Friday, the Friday just before Easter, when we commemorate the crucifixion and death of Jesus. Good Friday is a holy day for Christians, meaning that we are to pray and fast and are allowed only one full meal and no meat (as it is Friday).

Thailand Bans YouTube

In the latest bit of Internet free speech restriction, the Kingdom of Thailand has banned YouTube from the entire country. Yesterday Thai telecom blocked the video-sharing site because of a 44 second clip in which revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej was shown in photos that had been defaced.

In total four events are celebrated today: the washing of the disciples’ feet by Jesus, the institution of the Mystery of the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper, the agony of [...]

Spy Wednesday

Today is Spy Wednesday, the final Wednesday of Lent during the Holy Week leading up to Easter this Sunday. It is on this day that we recognize Judas Iscariot as first conspiring with the Sanhedrin to betray Jesus for 30 silver coins. Thus, today would be a good time to look inside yourself and see [...]

Day in and day out I come across thousands of people. New York City truly is an urban jungle with all sorts of people who will walk all over you if you let them. Everyday I encounter people doing things that are beyond rude and impolite, and here are some of the worst ones:
5) People [...]

The American World

I stumbled across this picture while on my train home from work today and thought it would be a worthy post. The sad part about it is that although it’s stereotyping at the highest of levels, it’s more than true for over half of Americans I’d say.

What’s even sadder is that I’d bet [...]
