Google Exec Confirms Phone in the Works

Isabel Aguilera, chief executive for Google in Spain and Portugal, has confessed that Google is in fact working on a mobile device. In an effort to downplay any hype, she added that it was just one of 18 research and development projects currently underway in the lab.

She added that the device is being made with developing countries in mind, indicating that this might be more of a lower-end device, and not God’s gift to mobile phones as we have all been hoping. Unfortunately there are no further concept images to display, so we’ll have to wait until some pictures get leaked to get a better idea of what the device will actually look like.

I think this is an interesting marketing approach for Google, let the LGs, Nokias and now Apples of the world battle it out for the high-end device, and focus on the consumer with little money to spare for a mobile device. It is certainly one way to get some market share quickly.
